The mobile gutter system (MGS)

Thanks to Hortiplan's rapid growth, the number of new mobile gutter system projects for leafy crops will more than double every year. In this way, Arvesta aims to achieve a global water saving of 14 billion litres by 2025.

Arvesta’s ambition

By 2025, our ambition is to save more than twice that amount of water worldwide with our MGS by more than doubling our construction capacity, especially the further expansion of crops with MGS. As a result, we will save up to an additional 400 million liters annually, which by 2025 represents a total global water savings of more than 3 billion liters.

What exactly does a mobile gully system entail?

A mobile gully system or MGS is a fully automated and innovative cultivation system. You need less labor, less space and less water. In addition, the space is constantly adapted to the growth of the plants and all parameters for an optimal climate are under control.

Growing on MGS is the future. The advantages over classic soil cultivation are numerous and, above all, very sustainable. Today, with our 60 hectares of MGS, we save no less than 1.2 billion liters of water compared to conventional cultivation.

Here, Pete Overgaag of Hollandia produce in California talks a little more about his experiences with Hortiplan's mobile gully system.

Circular City Greenhouses

One of our strong examples of circularity is Van der Hoeven's Circular City Greenhouses. Water, energy, nutrients and CO2 are extracted from urban or industrial waste streams and ensure that plants in the greenhouse can grow optimally and healthily. It is an essential link to close the loop as much as possible and grow food that has been produced ecologically and economically fairly.
